Job Description

We are seeking a resourceful, detail-oriented, and self-driven Laboratory Manager to join our quickly growing team and help support our expanding operations. The successful candidate will have a degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field and will have direct experience managing lab facilities, vendors, and teams within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain an inventory of all supplies/chemicals/equipment for the R&D Team. Ensure that there is always an adequate supply of consumables

  • Purchase lab supplies and equipment for the R&D Team

  • Coordinate lab equipment maintenance, calibrations, etc. and to troubleshoot in the case of an equipment issue

  • Provide oversight of the cold storage alarm system

  • Develop and optimize processes and lab management procedures and communicate them to the group (both verbally and in writing)

  • Coordinate lab deliveries and shipments 

  • Occasionally lift and move packages upwards of 50 lbs in weight

  • Collaborate regularly with scientists to identify and address any workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, opportunities for process improvement, and logistical or administrative issues in the lab

  • Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve operational problems, and address occasional lab emergencies.

  • Work with the facilities team to ensure safety compliance and to schedule building facility requests, waste pick up, etc.

  • Manage vendor relations and contracts

  • Play a key role in planning for laboratory move and new facility set up

Required Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, immunology, or related field

  • Experience in facilities or logistics with a non-science degree also considered

  • 1-5 years of experience working in a biotech / pharmaceutical lab environment

  • A high level of initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work with little supervision.

  • Ability to multi-task while remaining organized and efficient and still paying great attention to detail

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with team members across different functional

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Adaptable to changes and ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a biotech / pharmaceutical lab environment

  • Deep understanding of the research and development environment and their specific needs.

  • Experience with the procurement and negotiation of goods and services in a lab environment.
