Location: Onsite | Schedule: Full-Time (Tues–Sat, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM) OR Part-Time (Tues–Sat, 10:30 AM–4:30 PM)

We’re seeking a detail-oriented Cytology Specialist to join our client's diagnostic lab team focused on the evaluation of thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) samples. In this hands-on role, you will play a key part in preparing, staining, and processing cellular samples, ensuring accuracy and quality in every step. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in cytopathology, an eye for precision, and a commitment to maintaining lab excellence in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and NYS regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and stain cytological smears; generate cell blocks from FNA samples

  • Evaluate slide quality and address any technical or staining issues

  • Contribute to process development and implementation of new methodologies

  • Support inventory management, workflow prioritization, and lab scheduling

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to cytoprep and support staff

  • Participate in ongoing quality control, compliance reviews, and process improvement

  • Collaborate with leadership to review, assess, and enhance lab protocols

  • Support cross-functional tasks including specimen intake and accessioning

  • Participate in validations, inspections, and safety initiatives

  • Assist in training and competency assessments of non-testing personnel

  • Engage in team-oriented research, operational improvements, and special projects

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline (biology, chemistry, or related field); a background in cytotechnology is strongly preferred

  • Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT, ASCP)

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a cytology lab

  • Solid understanding of clinical laboratory operations and compliance standards

  • Familiarity with cytology preparation methods, including liquid-based techniques

  • Comfortable navigating lab information systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office tools

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication

  • Ability to work independently while being a strong team contributor

  • Flexibility to adapt schedule as needed to support lab priorities

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Extended periods of standing or sitting

  • Use of microscopes and fine motor skills for specimen handling

  • Required use of PPE (gloves, coat, protective eyewear)

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
