Job Description
Staff Scientist position is available in a tumor immunology lab of Sana Karam, MD, PhD, at Washington University, Department of Radiation Oncology. The position will involve translational research aimed at understanding immunological mechanisms of response and resistance in the tumor microenvironment.
Designs research protocols. Assists in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis and documentation of experiment results.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, design research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data.
- Conduct research experiments using animal models and a variety of immunology and molecular biology assays and techniques.
- Write grants, papers, and posters. Present research findings.
- Provide training and mentoring as needed to graduate students, fellows, postdocs, residents, PRAs, and student workers.
- Perform complex statistical analysis of data collected and write interpretative reports.
- Verify the correctness of the data submitted and make recommendations based on these analyses.
- Document research topics and prepare and submit papers based on research work for publication or presentation to peers.
- Solve practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggest technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
- Conduct literature searches related to the research project.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Required Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
Work Experience:
Laboratory Operations (3 Years)
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree. – Immunology
