Job Description

Translate Bio is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to join our Pharmacology team. The individual in this role will contribute to drug development efforts at TBio, particularly focused on lung diseases with high unmet need, such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary arterial hypertension, primary ciliary dyskinesia, and cystic fibrosis. She/he will oversee early drug discovery and development in vivo pharmacology studies by contributing expertise in disease animal models.


  • Lead pharmacology and translational development roles on multi-disciplinary teams from early preclinical phase through IND-enabling studies
  • Provide technical expertise in generating genetic or chemically-induced pulmonary models with a clear understanding of model development
  • Design and oversee the execution of in vivo pharmacological studies in lung disease models by applying our proprietary platform using various routes of administration
  • Manage externalized pharmacological studies at CROs and academic collaborators by conducting site appraisals, establishing protocols with attention to detail, and evaluating study reports
  • Conduct downstream analyses of samples with relevant assays at the bench pertaining to the disease model
  • Analyze data from studies to inform decisions in a timely manner
  • Prepare reports and presentations of results from studies across the organization
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in molecular, cell/developmental, pharmacological sciences or similar with experience in lung physiology and pulmonary disease, with 6+ years experience in a biotech or pharma setting
  • Experience performing in vivo pharmacology studies in animal models of pulmonary diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary arterial hypertension, primary ciliary dyskinesia, and cystic fibrosis with various routes of administration
  • Knowledge of downstream analytics for the relevant pulmonary disease indications
  • Demonstrated experience to execute in vivo pharmacology studies from early discovery through IND-enabling studies, experience with writing pharmacology sections of IND applications a plus
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working with outside CROs and academic collaborators
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment to advance programs to and through translational development 
  • Manages time effectively demonstrating ability to perform multiple projects at one time
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
