A biopharmaceutical company is seeking a skilled Biochemist to join their team, reporting to the Senior Director. The Senior Scientist will lead biochemical and biophysical assay development to support cancer drug discovery efforts, including hit identification, mechanism of action studies, and lead optimization. Expertise in assay development, mechanistic enzymology, and diverse screening approaches is required. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance early-stage drug discovery programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute in vitro biochemical and biophysical assays for hit-finding and validation of novel targets  
  • Design experiments to determine the mechanism of action for small molecules
  • Collaborate with CROs to ensure high-quality data within project timelines
  • Evaluate and assess new screening technologies and modalities
  • Analyze, interpret, and present data to project teams in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate experimental records in the electronic lab notebook
  • Contribute to target identification and validation through literature reviews
  • Perform additional duties as needed

Required Skills

  • PhD in Enzymology, Biochemistry, or a related field, or Master’s with equivalent experience  
  • At least 2 years of post-graduate experience (post-doc or industry)
  • Expertise in designing and developing in vitro biochemical and biophysical assays, with knowledge of formats like Fluorescence, Luminescence, AlphaLISA, SPR, Thermal shift, and MS-based assays
  • Desired experience in small molecule drug discovery, including high-throughput screening, hit validation, and mechanism of action characterization
  • Strong background in biochemistry and biophysics, with a focus on enzyme kinetics and MoA studies
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize experiments
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills required
