Our client is an innovative, stealth-mode biotechnology company pioneering mRNA-based therapeutics. We seek a Senior Director of Chemistry to lead their research efforts in oligonucleotide synthesis, conjugation, and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation. This role will be instrumental in advancing chemical strategies to enhance stability, efficacy, and delivery for mRNA-based medicines.

Responsibilities

● Lead and manage the oligonucleotide chemistry team, establishing strategic goals and research priorities.
● Develop and optimize novel oligonucleotide synthesis, conjugation, and chemical modification strategies.
● Advance and refine LNP and other delivery systems in collaboration with formulation and biology teams.
● Identify and integrate emerging technologies to enhance oligonucleotide and LNP performance.
● Collaborate cross-functionally with Biology, CMC, and external consultants.
● Represent the chemistry function in leadership discussions, external collaborations, and scientific forums.
● Mentor and grow a high-performing team, fostering innovation and technical excellence.

Required Skills

● Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry, or a related field, with deep expertise in oligonucleotide synthesis and conjugation.
● 12+ years of industry experience, with at least 7 years in synthetic and conjugation chemistry.
● Proven expertise in oligonucleotide chemistry, delivery technologies, and conjugation strategies.
● Strong understanding of LNP formulation and alternative delivery systems.
● Demonstrated success in leading research teams and cross-functional collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications
● Experience in a fast-paced biotech or startup environment.
● Strong knowledge of mRNA chemistry and delivery.
● Passion for innovative chemistry solutions and next-generation delivery systems.
