Job Description

Casebia Therapeutics is seeking a senior/principal research associate (depending on experience) for our Ophthalmology group, based in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will help develop novel gene editing therapies and contribute to Casebia’s strategic research plans in the area of ophthalmology. He/she will assist with discovery research projects through preclinical studies, and help transfer work to CROs and service providers . We are  seeking candidates who have experience with gene editing tools, preferably CRISPR/Cas9 or TALEN or ZINC Finger Nucleases, and/or experience with gene delivery of viral (e.g. AAV, Lentiviral) and/or non-viral (e.g. nanoparticle, liposome). Additionally, the candidates should be familiar with various inherited ophthalmic disorders and associated animal models.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing a preclinical research plan from discovery research to IND/CTA filing
  • Develop CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing tools
  • Develop/optimize viral/non-viral delivery tools
  • Planning and hands-on execution of ex vivo and in vitro assays for downstream molecular biology and biochemistry analysis
  • Gather, analyze and present experimental data under the direction of the     Research Scientist
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and rooms, notebooks

Required Skills

  • BS/MS in a relevant scientific discipline with 5 + years’ experience
  • Direct experience with assays and technologies related to molecular biology, gene editing, and/or viral and non-viral DNA/RNA delivery methods
  • Knowledge of scientific principles and concepts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment but also be a self-starter, internally motivated, with the ability to work independently
  • Scientifically rigorous, highly organized, with significant attention to detail    
  • Industry experience in genetic engineering
  • Familiarity with inherited ophthalmic disorders
  • High energy level, focus, a passion and sense of urgency for developing important new medicines for devastating diseases
