Job Description

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in supporting the design, implementation, and growth of our informatics and small molecule drug research and development platforms. The Head of Informatics will have a long-term vision and plan for the establishment of cohesive, fit-for-purpose informatics infrastructure encompassing Tango’s needs from Target Discovery through Clinical Development, with an immediate emphasis on supporting the Hit-to-Lead and Lead Optimization stages. He/she will work closely with colleagues across Tango to translate business needs into state-of-the-art informatics solutions. The candidate will efficiently assess current capabilities to identify gaps, propose solutions, and implement a carefully considered strategy for sustained growth. This person will also be responsible for building and managing a team of internal & external informatics experts working across multiple programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the informatics group that develops and maintains production informatics systems across the company
  • Collaborate with computational and experimental scientists, software engineers, and business management to deploy, support, and provide appropriate insight, data management, and reporting solutions
  • Identify appropriate commercial systems or develop custom applications to support research, preclinical and clinical development
  • Strive to continuously improve our informatics platform by identifying unmet needs and implementing creative solutions with buy-in from users
  • Ensure appropriate training and assistance is provided to users
  • Develop and promote best practices for scientific data capture, integration, and analysis
  • Serve as a champion for global data management, governance, quality and vendor relationships across the company
  • Grow the breadth and depth of the informatics department expertise to meet short and long-term corporate objectives. Mentor career development of scientists within the informatics team
  • Provide strong leadership and business acumen to inspire the organization around common goals, vision, and values for informatics

Required Skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, or a related scientific discipline, plus at least 7 years of relevant work experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
  • Prior experience and record of accomplishment leading cross-functional teams and delivering on schedule
  • Excellent communication skills and a drive to work with people from diverse scientific and non-scientific backgrounds
  • Highly organized thinker, problem-solver, and enthusiastic team player, able to prioritize multiple projects and tasks
  • Deep understanding of the commercial scientific applications used for small molecule drug discovery and analytics, such as solutions from Benchling, Certara, Dotmatics, Scilligence, ChemAxon, Perkin Elmer, Genedata, Schrodinger, OpenEye, GE, Abbott, and Biovia
  • Previous experience building, deploying, and supporting drug discovery data systems and query tools
  • Prior experience successfully supporting and leveraging outsourcing strategies
  • Strong working knowledge of modern web development, scientific computing, software development, cloud infrastructure, and databases
