Job Description

The Scientist II/Senior Scientist in Gene Therapy Research is integral to developing AAV-based gene therapies for metabolic diseases. They contribute to lead and pipeline programs through assays, modeling, and screening, requiring expertise in islet biology and a collaborative approach to achieving program goals.

Responsibilities

* Develop and perform molecular assays for AAV-based gene therapy assessment in islet cells. * Contribute to in vivo data through islet isolation and characterization from animal models. * Engineer pancreas properties for disease targets. * Introduce new technologies and biological concepts to support gene therapy goals. * Manage CRO activities for cell model development and islet transgene assessment. * Collaborate with teams to achieve program objectives. * Prepare technical reports and mentor junior scientists. * Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.

Required Skills

* PhD in Biology, Physiology, or related field OR Masters with 10+ years industry experience. * 3-5+ years post-PhD experience in academia or industry, preferably in biotech or pharmaceuticals. * Management or mentorship experience preferred. * Extensive experience with primary pancreatic islets. * Islet isolation skills preferred. * Proficient in mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays. * Familiarity with metabolic disease animal models. * Skills in Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, IF imaging, ELISA, and molecular biology techniques. * Prior gene therapy research is a plus, including transfection and AAV transduction. * Experience with CRO collaboration and IND/CTA filing processes advantageous. * Track record in dynamic environments with intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills. * Ability to lead projects efficiently and work well in small teams. * Strong organizational, communication, and ethical standards.
