Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the role of Laboratory Building Operations Manager at our state-of-the-art Delbruck Building facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing laboratory building-related operations, ensuring the seamless functioning of essential processes that drive our scientific research endeavors.
Position Responsibilities
As the Laboratory Building Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in maintaining the efficiency and functionality of our laboratory environment. Your key responsibilities will include:
Checking and maintaining incubators, cold rooms, boilers, and autoclaves to ensure proper operation.
Collecting, washing, sterilizing, and restocking dirty glassware from all labs.
Keeping communal areas such as the kitchen, hallways, and cabinets clean and organized.
Calibrating pH meters and balances to uphold accurate measurements.
Monitoring and managing soil waste disposal cans and DI water supplies.
Creating and managing common media, plates, antibiotics, buffers, and DI water bottles used by lab staff.
Regularly assessing common supply shelves and restocking as necessary, involving communication with suppliers and procurement activities.
Coordinating timely disposal of soil, delivery of liquid nitrogen, and dry ice.
Initiating work orders for building maintenance and repair.
Conducting research and facilitating the procurement of laboratory equipment, including capital budget items, in collaboration with facilities, equipment services, and lab staff.
Position Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, or an equivalent amount of laboratory experience.
Experience:
Several years of proven experience working in a scientific laboratory, with a strong background in media preparation.
Skills:
General knowledge of scientific equipment and laboratory operations.
Proficiency in media preparation techniques.
Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and external partners.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and determine appropriate solutions.
Quick and efficient responsiveness to user needs.
Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and data management.
