Job Title: Research Technician II – WashU Neurosurgery & Genetics
Job Number: 61916
Location: St. Louis, US
Job Description
Position Summary
Position available in the laboratory of Yang E. Li in the Department of Neurological Surgery and Genetics, Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM).
Epigenomics is at the forefront of Precision Medicine. The epigenome plays a central role in regulating the functional output of the genome during development. Changes in the epigenome that result from exposure to stress, pathogenic conditions and during aging can determine the patterns of gene expression and predispose an individual to diseases. Epigenome research promises to significantly improve our understanding of the factors that drive human development and disease. Our laboratory aims to develop innovative computational tools/methods and utilize most advanced single-cell (epi)genomic techniques to gain a comprehensive understanding of gene regulation in mammalian models and human diseases, particularly in brain tumors and neuropsychiatric disorders.
The Research Technician will be trained to perform experiments to map cells’ epigenomes such as ATAC-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and single-cell multiomics assays such as single-cell ATAC- + RNA-seq, single-cell Methyl-HiC, and and Paired-Tag. The technician will assist in producing high-quality data for multiple research efforts across departments. They will be responsible for careful record keeping, operating laboratory equipment, troubleshooting, quality control, and periodically summarizing results for supervisors. Additional duties may include organization of laboratory reagents, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. We seek a candidate who is enthusiastic about learning cutting-edge genomic techniques and working in a dynamic “start-up” atmosphere similar to what might be found in the biotechnology sector, yet within a vibrant academic research university.
Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
