Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking intellectually curious, highly motivated candidates for a research Technician position in the Albeanu Lab starting August 2023 or later. The Albeanu group investigates the logic of neural circuits underlying olfactory perception and sensorimotor predictions and errors using approaches from Systems Neuroscience including open and closed-loop behavioral tasks, multiphoton imaging and electrode recordings, optogenetic manipulations of activity and high-throughput DNA barcoding of neural circuit connectivity. The technician will work closely with postdocs and students in the lab in conducting experiments, training laboratory animals, as well as building, debugging and maintaining custom lab infrastructure.

Position Responsibilities

The technician will conduct experiments using rodent operant training, widefield and multiphoton fluorescence and intrinsic signal optical imaging, and optogenetic stimulation using light-patterning devices. In addition, the technician will be involved in custom rig building and troubleshooting, as well as data analysis. The technician’s interests will be considered to provide them with a solid background for their subsequent career stages.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Science/Engineering (e.g. Neuroscience, Physics, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, etc).
 
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience with techniques used in the lab (in particular with animal handling and behavioral training and in vivo activity monitoring) are highly valued. The ideal candidate has computer programming experience (Python and/or MATLAB preferred) and participated in a research project in their field at the undergrad level. General laboratory experience, independent troubleshooting skills, and a problem-solving attitude are also desirable.
 
SKILLS: Strong organizational abilities and good communication and interpersonal skills are required. In addition, quantitative analysis skills are valued.
