Job Description
The Patgiri lab at Emory University in Atlanta (https://patgirilab.org/) is seeking a motivated soon-to-be (graduating in 2024) or recent graduate to join our lab as a full-time Postbaccalaureate research technician/specialist. This is a great opportunity to gain research experience to prepare for Ph.D., MD, or MD/Ph.D. programs. Candidates with prior research experience in biochemistry, cell or molecular biology, or metabolomics will be preferred. This position requires at least 2 years of time commitment.
The Patgiri lab develops potential therapies for mitochondrial and other metabolic diseases (see example https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-019-0377-7). The candidate will have the opportunity to learn mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein purification, molecular biology (cloning, CRISPR gene editing, etc.), and basic mouse experiments. The candidate will be also able to learn cutting-edge liquid-chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS)-based metabolomics on our lab’s Agilent 6546 QTOF high-resolution LCMS. Lastly, the candidate will have the opportunity to present at scientific conferences and earn authorship in publications. Responsibilities:
- To design and conduct experiments in molecular biology (cloning, qPCR, etc.), protein chemistry (protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization), and mammalian cell culture.
- To analyze and interpret data for publications and meetings.
- To generate protocols for your project and for the lab.
- To manage routing lab operations, such as maintaining equipment, tracking inventory levels, and placing orders.
- To train new lab members.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, cell or molecular biology, or related fields.
- Prior research experience will be highly preferred.
- Basic statistical analysis skills.
- Attention to detail and record keeping.
- Ability to troubleshoot experiments.
