Job Description

Goldfinch Bio seeks a talented Research Informatics Scientist to join our multidisciplinary research team of computational and experimental scientists. The Research Informatics Scientist will contribute to the design and development of our software tools and infrastructure supporting discovery chemistry, biology, and biomarker groups. They will work with bench and data scientists to develop tools and processes to capture and analyze data and to derive actionable insights. S/he will assist with development and monitoring of data processing pipelines, data infrastructure, data integration and laboratory automation.  The Research Informatics Scientist will be responsible for assisting with the management and analysis of data from a broad range of laboratory instruments, including images from super resolution fluorescence microscopes. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of modern software technologies to complex informatics problems in a dynamic research environment.


Data preparation, analysis, visualization and building and maintaining scientific tools and infrastructures for drug discovery research through:

  • Researching, developing, and integrating new technologies and computational approaches to enhance and accelerate scientific research
  • Utilizing programming and scripting to parse/prepare data
  • Applying machine learning to uncover novel trends in experimental data
  • Partnering with project teams to develop informatics solutions to satisfy business needs
  • Communicating research initiatives and results internally and externally
  • Managing the electronic laboratory notebook system, including developing integrations and templates as well as monitoring compliance across the organization

Required Skills

  • BS, MS or PhD in Computational Sciences (computer science, applied math/statistics, computational chemistry, bio/cheminformatics) or scientific field (chemistry, biology, biophysics) with strong computational experience
  • Ability to execute and automate standard scientific and statistical analyses using tools/languages including Python, R, SQL, Java, Linux, etc. 
  • Experience in scientific software administration and tool development including compound registration, assay results management systems, electronic laboratory notebooks, laboratory information management systems, and custom web apps
  • Knowledge of small molecule structures, cheminformatics and molecular modeling
  • Experience with biochemical and biological data (enzyme assays, DNA sequences, RNAseq, proteomics, microscopy images, etc.)
  • Experience with laboratory automation and liquid handling systems a plus
  • Working knowledge of genetic/genomic and bioinformatics tools and technologies a plus
  • Experience within the full software development lifecycle from planning through deployment and maintenance a plus
  • Knowledge of cloud computing, AWS, Docker, Git a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team environment dedicated to delivering new drugs to patients
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to write thorough requirements documents
