Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our peptide discovery group at FogPharma, Cambridge, MA. The candidate will be responsible for using our powerful helix discovery platform to discover binders to undruggable target proteins, and for developing new methods to expand the platform’s capabilities. The role requires a hands-on experience in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, bacterial culture, and assay development. Experience with automation, such as KingFisher is a plus. The candidate should be an enthusiastic, hard-working, detail-oriented team player, with a passion for scientific research and drug discovery.


  • Design, construct, and screen phage-displayed peptide libraries to discover binders to undruggable target proteins in parallel
  • Construct phage-displayed peptide libraries for de novo screening and optimization
  • Analyze results and identify hits using next-generation sequencing
  • Independently analyze data and troubleshoot methods
  • Present experimental results at internal meetings
  • Provide laboratory support for the platform research activities

Required Skills

  • B.S. or M.S. in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of research experience. Work study/co-op, or industry experience is preferred
  • Strong protein biochemistry skills, including hands-on experience with protein expression/purification and protein assays
  • Experience in molecular biology, such as primer design, PCR, cloning, and library design and construction
  • Experience with display screening methods, such as phage display, yeast display, or mRNA display is a plus
  • Experience with using magnetic beads or a magnetic bead processor, such as KingFisher, for selection or other types of automation is preferred
  • Experience with analytical methods such as HPLC and mass spectrometry, structural biology, protein-protein interactions and fluorescence-based assay technologies is a plus
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
