Job Description
We are currently seeking a Research Associate who is highly motivated and capable of working independently. This individual will join our expanding team with the goal of advancing novel gene therapies from discovery to nonclinical development, ultimately paving the way for clinical applications. This role, which is based in the laboratory, involves using innovative molecular and biochemical techniques to assess the distribution of recombinant AAV (rAAV), transgene expression, pharmacology/efficacy markers in rodent and large animal models, as well as histological and molecular pathology methods. Collaboration with fellow researchers in drug discovery, viral manufacturing, and in vivo pharmacology is a key aspect of this position, aimed at progressing our pipeline. Given that we are a startup company, this role offers substantial growth potential and opportunities to contribute to various areas of research and development.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate closely with the Nonclinical Bioanalytical team and Discovery Research to fulfill company objectives by independently executing experimental designs with minimal supervision and a self-driven approach.
• Contribute to the development and validation of assays, encompassing molecular, biochemical, cell-based, and other molecular techniques.
• Conduct tissue sample preparation and analysis, including RNA, DNA, and protein extraction; employ ddPCR/qPCR-based detection methods; utilize quantitative immunodetection techniques such as western blot and JESS to assess vector genome distribution, transgene transcript levels, and protein expression.
• Employ histological staining techniques, such as immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry, to assess the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions in disease animal models.
• Perform immunological cell-based assays to identify and quantify neutralizing and total antibodies targeting AAV capsids.
• Maintain meticulous records of experimental data in electronic laboratory notebooks.
• Contribute to the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work protocols.
• Prepare written summaries of data for peer review and effectively communicate findings in departmental meetings.
Required Skills
• Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences, with a minimum of 2 years of research experience, preferably in the realm of drug discovery. Possessing a master’s degree and prior industry involvement is advantageous. The job title will be determined based on your experience.
• Demonstrate expertise in handling biological samples from animals, including proficiency in DNA, RNA, and protein extraction.
• Exhibit proficiency in utilizing techniques such as qPCR, ddPCR, western blot, JESS, and ELISA.
• Showcase proficiency in histological evaluation methods, including but not limited to H&E staining, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization-based staining, which is highly desirable.
• Display competence in cell culture-related procedures, including the maintenance of cell lines, which is highly advantageous.
• Express a willingness to acquire knowledge of new laboratory methods; however, previous experience with AAV-based gene therapies is preferred.
• Present evidence of prior collaboration within a team-based, interdisciplinary environment.
• Possess strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities, coupled with effective verbal and written communication skills, and an inclination towards teamwork and collaboration.
