Job Description

The Auerbach lab (auerbachlab.org) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on projects studying the synaptic and circuit mechanisms underlying auditory perception, experience-dependent plasticity, and perceptual impairments associated with hearing loss and neurodevelopmental disorders. The studies will involve a variety of approaches and tools including in vivo multichannel extracellular electrophysiology, innate and operant perceptual decision-making tasks, ex vivo whole-cell patch clamp recordings, opto/chemogenetics, and genetically modified viral tracing. The position is on a yearly basis, with full funding support from NIH and other federally sources available for at least 3 years.

We are excited for motivated, independent scientists to join our research group. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Physiology, Neurobiology, Bioengineering, or a related discipline. Candidates close to defending the Ph.D. dissertation will be considered. Candidates with experience in in vivo extracellular electrophysiology and/or whole-cell patch clamp recordings are highly desired. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both individually and as part of a team are required. Competitive candidates will have at least one first-author publication.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with current NIH funding levels. The University of Illinois provides an excellent compensation and benefits package.
