Job Title: Postdoctoral Position in CryoEM, Molecular Pharmacology, Drug Discovery

Job Number: 65380

Location: New York City/Manhattan, US

Job Description

We have a Postdoctoral position available in the Wacker lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. The long-term goal of the Wacker lab is to develop a mechanistic understanding of membrane protein transporters and receptors involved in a variety of pathologies including neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. We further aim to leverage our molecular insights in drug discovery towards the development of novel target selective compounds and drugs.

The project will involve expression, purification as well as structural and biochemical characterization of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and solute carrier (SLC) drug targets. To this end we employ a combination of state-of-the-art structural (cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography) and pharmacological techniques. Examples of typical projects are, for instance, studying the molecular basis of how psychedelics signal via serotonin receptors or the development and characterization of novel transport inhibitors to better understand their role in a variety of pathologies.

More info can be found at https://wackerlab.com/

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant subject area, such as membrane protein biochemistry or structural biology. Experience in recombinant membrane protein expression and purification, structure determination, or functional analysis using biochemical and biophysical techniques is essential. The ability to work in a team as well as good verbal and written communication skills are expected. Experience in cryo-EM and/or x-ray crystallography is an advantage.

Applications should include research interests, career aims, as well as a CV with publication record and contact information of three references.

Application Deadline: 2023-12-31
