The Jaffré Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City is seeking a Postdoctoral candidate with backgrounds in cardiovascular biology or cardiac development and hiPSCs as developmental and disease models to lead projects investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying congenital heart defects and cardiomyopathies in rare genetic disorders.
Through our research program, we aim to advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that are impacted in CHDs and genetic cardiomyopathies with the long-term goal to identify novel therapeutic interventions. Toward that objective, we leverage human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), cardiac directed differentiation, genome editing (CRISPR), multi-omics, 3D organoids and engineered heart tissues as developmental and disease models. Our research program is focused on studying cardiogenesis and cardiac function in genetic disorders as a unique opportunity to delineate mechanisms of cardiac regenerative processes and the molecular perturbations causing CHDs or cardiomyopathies.
Our collaborative and growing research group is part of the Program in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in the Surgery Department. Weill Cornell is part of the Tri-Institutional Collaboration Network with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Rockefeller University, all located on the same campus. This combination of several world-class research institutions creates a unique environment and opportunities for resource-sharing and collaboration.
– Applicants must have recently obtained a Ph.D. with ideally a background in cardiac development, cardiovascular biology, hiPSCs and cardiac differentiation. Candidates with experience in hiPSC differentiation in non-cardiac cells will also be considered.
– Evidence of prior and current research productivity.
– Experimental background in molecular and cellular biology.
– Expertise in hESCs/hiPSCs, genome editing (CRISPR) and cell culture skills. Experience with 3D organoids and/or omics (RNA-seq, CHIP-seq, proteomics) is a plus.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team as well as construct novel research hypotheses in collaboration with the principal investigator.
– Excellent organizational and analytical skills, self-motivation, enthusiasm, and creativity.
Salary for this position is: $58,500
