Job Title: Postdoctoral Position Available in the Finkelstein Lab at UT-Austin

Job Number: 59759

Location: Austin, US

Job Description

The Finkelstein lab (https://finkelsteinlab.org/) has two immediate openings for postdoctoral positions. The first opening is in the area of CRISPR gene editing. We aim to understand the mechanisms of CRISPR-Cas gene editing and use these insights to develop new gene editing modalities. The second opening is in the area of pandemic preparedness. We are developing a high-throughput antigen design and characterization platform. Using this platform, we aim to develop broad-spectrum influenza antigens. Another main thrust is the development of antigens for viruses with a high risk of zoonotic transmission. Our approaches include bioinformatic discovery, protein engineering, ensemble and single-molecule biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, and structural biology.

The lab has a track record of training and placing postdoctoral fellows that go on to be exceptional academic group leaders and senior scientists in the biotech industry in the United States and other countries. The research environment at UT-Austin is outstanding and nurturing, especially for applicants who are interested in mechanistic biology and its translational impact. Clinical collaborations are encouraged via UT-Austin’s Dell Medical School and other partnerships.

We seek self-motivated, career-oriented applicants to join an exciting, highly interactive research team. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, or a related field. Submit applications to the listed application email and include (1) a cover letter; (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) the names and contact information of three or more references.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. This is a term position with an annual, renewable contract.

Our lab is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion efforts at UT-Austin. We strongly encourage individuals who identify as members of groups historically underrepresented in STEM to apply.

Highly motivated and energetic applicants are encouraged to contact the Finkelstein lab at the listed application email.
