Job Description

The Bolding Lab at the Monell Chemical Senses Center is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to perform research into the neural circuit basis of olfactory processing and odor memory. We are applying cutting-edge electrophysiological, optical, and computational tools to advance a multi-level research program focused on the function of the main olfactory system. Our primary focus is to establish the neurobiological changes that support memory storage and retrieval in the olfactory system. There are additional opportunities related to aging biology, social interactions and recognition, and other naturalistic / ethological functions of olfaction. The Monell Chemical Senses Center, founded in 1968, is the world’s first nonprofit scientific institute devoted exclusively to basic research on the chemical senses: taste, smell, and chemosensory irritation. Research at Monell contributes to a wide range of scientific and practical knowledge including taste and smell loss with COVID-19 . With more than fifty Ph.D.-level scientists, the Center is making major progress toward understanding how the chemical senses function and their importance in everyday life. Qualifications 

• Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree is required. Many applicants come from fields outside the chemical senses. A background in chemosensory research is not required. 
• Strong self-motivation, an interest in obtaining new skills, and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary environment are highly valued. 
• The ideal candidate should be highly engaged by systems neuroscience research and have a strong interest in the questions our lab is pursuing. 
• Experience with in vivo electrophysiology, calcium imaging, quantitative behavior analysis, machine learning / statistics, and computational modeling are valued.
