Job Number: 91418

Location: Cold Spring Harbor, US

Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellow in Structural Neurobiology and Neuroimmunology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL)

Postdoctoral positions are available for structural biologists, electrophysiologists, and molecular neuroscientists interested in decoding cellular signaling of neuroplasticity, neurodegeneration, and autoimmune encephalitis in the Furukawa lab at CSHL in the New York area. To achieve our research goals, we implement a combined approach of cryo-EM, crystallography, electrophysiology, imaging, protein engineering, etc. We also have exciting collaborative projects in cancer biology, immunology, and behavioral neuroscience within and outside CSHL. CSHL has state-of-the-art equipment, including Titan-KRIOS 300 kV electron microscope/K3-GIF detector at CSHL, crystallography tools, and an excellent facility for proteomics, as well as cellular imaging. For these positions, we are looking for candidates who would be broadly interested in projects related to (1) Functional characterization of autoimmune antibodies against NMDA receptors in vivo and in vitro and (2) Structural and functional characterization of large-pore channels (https://furukawalab.labsites.cshl.edu/publications/). CSHL historically offers a unique scientific environment to interact with scientists within the institute and from outside at the prestigious CSHL courses and meetings (including courses on X-ray Methods in Structural Biology, Cryo-EM, and Ion channels physiology). Our group has a solid track record for educating and promoting postdocs to assistant professors in academia and equivalent positions in the industry (https://furukawalab.labsites.cshl.edu/lab-culture/). Qualified candidates should hold or soon expect to hold (within ~1 yr) a Ph.D. in the area of structural biology (crystallography, cryo-EM, cryo-ET), molecular neuroscience/electrophysiology (e.g., patch-clamp electrophysiology, slice physiology, imaging, etc.), membrane protein biochemistry/structural biology, or molecular cancer immunology. Candidates with experience in at least one of the above will be prioritized. Please visit our website (http://furukawalab.labsites.cshl.edu/) to read and learn about our research and lab culture before you apply. Please send a CV with a brief research statement (e.g., achievement and future interest) and two to three contacts for
references to Hiro Furukawa at [Please click the Apply button for the link or email].
