Title: Postdoctoral Associate
Location: College Park, MD (within 5 miles of Washington DC). Additionally, close to NSF, NIH, USDA, EPA, and other federal agencies.
Department: CMNS, Entomology
Salary: Minimum $65,000/yr and benefits.
Position description: The postdoc will take the lead on a project that looks at the sublethal effects of pesticides on insect development. They will develop and execute research to determine the molecular mechanisms involved in causing the sublethal effects. This will involve undertaking RNAi studies to knockdown peptides and receptors to determine the role of various neuroactive compounds in insect ecdysis and their molecular binding sites. Individuals with a strong background in molecular biology are encouraged to apply. The postdoc will be the first author on two or more publications and will receive opportunities to write grants and mentor graduate students. The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, technical writing skills, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
Required qualifications: PhD degree in biology, molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, developmental biology, entomology, toxicology, or a relevant field (degree should be obtained prior to start date). Candidates must have significant experience in using techniques like RNAi and RT-PCR.
