Job Title: PhD Position @ The CompNanoLab at the University of Miami

Job Number: 66843

Location: Miami, US

Job Description

A fully funded Ph.D. position is set to begin in Fall 2024 at the Computational Nanomaterials Laboratory in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at the University of Miami. In the CompNanoLab, led by Dr. Ruiz Pestana, we use multiscale modeling methods and data-driven tools to decipher the behaviors of nanostructured materials, spanning insights from the atomic scale to tangible engineering applications. We are particularly interested in structurally or configurationally disordered and heterogeneous material systems.

Dr. Ruiz Pestana earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University in 2015. Before his association with the Civil and Architectural Engineering Department at the University of Miami in 2019, he gained valuable experience as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Chemical Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

We are on the lookout for motivated students who share our passion for harnessing computational tools to tackle complex challenges in the physical sciences. While we encourage applications from students across diverse academic backgrounds, a foundation in scientific computing using programming languages such as MATLAB or Python is crucial. Familiarity with molecular simulation methods, though not a strict requirement, will be considered a significant advantage. Successful candidates can look forward to comprehensive financial support, covering both tuition fees and a stipend.

Interested candidates are invited to send their CV and a brief paragraph or two to [Please click the Apply button for the link or email], explaining why they believe they’d be a good fit for this position at The CompNanoLab.
