Job Description
This role is responsible for managing technical, engineering, process, and maintenance operations at a life sciences manufacturing facility specializing in biologics-based products for the biotech sector. As part of the site leadership team and reporting to senior management, this position plays a critical role in ensuring safe and efficient production while supporting the facility’s ongoing growth and operational commitments.
This position is responsible for achieving key operational goals related to customer service, quality, and cost efficiency to ensure the successful production of high-quality products. Collaborating with site leadership and key stakeholders across multiple functions—including R&D, quality, product management, and sales—you and your team will address ongoing challenges and drive initiatives supporting manufacturing operations, new product development, and continuous improvement efforts. Additionally, you will oversee site equipment maintenance, ensuring timely and effective project execution. Leading a team of scientists, engineers, and maintenance personnel, you will play a vital role in site growth, strategic planning, and the successful delivery of key projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee technical and engineering operations, budget management, and manufacturing maintenance to support production, quality control, new product initiatives, and process improvements.
- Ensure adequate resources for both routine and urgent manufacturing support while balancing strategic project execution and continuous improvement efforts.
- Manage capital expenditure planning, site-level project requirements, material lifecycle initiatives, and compliance-driven improvements.
- Lead projects from initiation to completion, conducting research and making recommendations on equipment and material selection while assessing risks, timelines, and objectives.
- Establish and maintain critical management processes for validation, maintenance, and calibration.
- Track and report key performance metrics, project progress, and improvement initiatives to various stakeholders.
- Develop and implement both short-term and long-term manufacturing strategies to enhance operational performance through process, equipment, and product improvements.
- Define team objectives, key success metrics, and priorities in coordination with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment with high-impact initiatives.
- Lead the team and provide guidance to other groups by analyzing manufacturing data, identifying critical issues, and implementing corrective actions to support broader organizational goals.
- Work closely with internal and cross-functional leaders, including quality, facilities, and EHS teams, to align technical strategies with operational and product requirements.
- Mentor and develop team members by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, problem-solving, and professional growth to ensure long-term success.
Required Skills
- A bachelor's degree in an applied science field such as engineering, biochemistry, or chemistry is required; an advanced degree (MS/PhD) is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing setting, overseeing teams and operations.
- Proven expertise in project and program management, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support strategic decision-making.
- Extensive knowledge in process improvement methodologies (Lean/Six Sigma), new product transitions, equipment design, process analysis, maintenance, calibration systems, ERP, validation processes, and regulatory compliance (FDA/ISO).
- Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively engage at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated success in developing leadership talent and building high-performing, cross-functional teams.
