Job Description

We are a neuroscience laboratory investigating the mechanisms of auditory perception and experience-dependent plasticity in the brain. This is a long-term position, so we are looking for 3+ years of commitment to joining the lab.

 

Responsibilities:

Ensure smooth running of the lab!

  1. Supervise undergraduates and run the rat behavior/hearing lab 5 days a week (Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday) from 9-5pm. This includes managing behavioral experiments, screening new volunteers, setting up a schedule, and learning how to run the various (matlab & R based) software for collecting and analyzing data. May require troubleshooting hardware issues with the behavior boxes.
  2. Ordering and receiving supplies for the lab (inventory management)
  3. Maintenance of our rat colony (also a few mice) including breeding & handling (such as injections), genotyping/tracking, and occasional euthanasia.
  4. Work with technicians to maintain a working lab environment (prepping & analyzing data, instrument calibration, etc.) 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or related field + experience in a lab environment and/or with laboratory rodents.
  • High level familiarity with MS Word and Excel
  • Basic computer literacy skills

 

Applicants need not have job-related experience, just a willingness to handle animals and an enthusiasm for learning; all necessary training will be provided. However, the best candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Animal behavioral training/testing including but not limited to operant/instrumental conditioning behavioral paradigms
  • Computer programing proficiency in MATLAB, R, and/or Python.
  • Molecular biology techniques such as PCR, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence.
  • Experience with graduate level education/procedures
