Job Description

We seek a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Kebschull and Kalhor Labs at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. This fully and stably funded position is flexible in scope but centered on developing models of viral spread and evolution in the brain. These models will be applied to develop new connectivity mapping tools in mice and potentially humans and will be used to answer questions in neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease. Both fully computational and wet+dry projects are possible. The successful candidate will be part of both the vibrant infectious disease and neuroscience communities at Hopkins.

About Us: The Kebschull Lab at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine develops innovative viral and sequencing-based approaches for brain mapping to explore fundamental questions in brain organization and neuroscience. Recent methods we developed include MAPseq, BRICseq, and BARseq (Kebschull et al. 2020 Science, Huang et al. 2020 Cell, Han et al. 2018 Nature, and Kebschull et al. 2016 Neuron). The Kalhor lab develops synthetic biology approaches for tracking cell lineage and fate to understand the development of the cellular architecture in the brain. This includes the MARC1 lineage barcoding mouse model (Kalhor et al. 2018 Science) and QFM theory and computational tools for fate reconstruction (Fang et al. 2022 Cell).

Position Summary: We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our dynamic team. This fully funded position offers the opportunity to develop new viral and sequencing-based neuroanatomical tools for mapping single-cell or multi-synaptic connectivity in diverse model systems. The successful candidate will have a background in phylogenetics of infectious disease or computational genomics and will apply these tools to address key questions in systems neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases.

Candidate Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a physical or biomedical science field with strong skills and prior experience in computational biology, infectious disease dynamics, genetics, neuroscience and/or molecular biology.
