Job Description
Reporting to the CFO/Head of Business Operations, the Head of IT will lead and manage IT strategy, resources, and capabilities across the enterprise. This includes overseeing clinical development support, infrastructure, cyber security, and business technology. The role involves guiding IT operations, driving digital innovation, and building relationships with business and IT leaders. The Head of IT will manage both internal and external teams to support the organization's virtual biotech strategy.
Responsibilities
- Develop IT strategy, vision, and roadmap aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Gates Foundation and business leaders to define essential IT capabilities and support.
- Lead IT Steering Committee, assess and prioritize business projects, and ensure IT-business collaboration.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, manage vendor relationships, and negotiate contracts.
- Oversee IT infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance, including disaster recovery and cybersecurity.
- Manage IT operational budgets and establish an information security program.
- Implement IT policies, processes, and organizational design; recruit and develop IT talent.
- Represent Gates MRI in IT architecture reviews and integrated planning.
Required Skills
- 15+ years in IT roles within biotech/pharmaceuticals, including 5-7 years in enterprise leadership with a focus on technology strategy and innovation.
- In-depth knowledge of biopharma technology needs, including clinical, biostats, CMC, GxP, and global data privacy.
- Advanced experience in IT architecture, data accountability, cybersecurity, and data management.
- Strong executive presence and effective communication skills with a focus on action.
- Proven strategic thinking and enterprise-wide perspective.
- Expertise in complex technology initiatives, analytics, application development, and risk management.
- Financial experience with budgeting, project management, and cost control.
- Successful track record in leading teams, managing outsourced resources, and adapting to changing business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, IT, software engineering, business management, or related fields.
