Job Description

A biotech company is seeking a Patent Attorney to support IP strategy, patent preparation and prosecution, and portfolio development. This role will also provide legal support to research and business teams. Ideal candidates will have experience in patent drafting and prosecution related to gene editing, CRISPR, or cell and gene therapies.

Responsibilities

• Help shape and manage a growing IP portfolio, including internally developed and in-licensed assets.

• Identify and evaluate inventions, conduct prior art searches, and develop patent strategies.

• Prepare and prosecute global patent applications; oversee outside counsel on IP matters.

• Monitor competitive IP, assess freedom-to-operate, and support due diligence for partnerships and collaborations.

• Provide IP guidance across teams, review publications, and support IP-related aspects of business activities.

Required Skills

• JD with bar admission and USPTO registration required
• PhD in a life science field preferred
• 5+ years of biotech patent drafting/prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate setting
• Experience with IP in collaborations and partnerships
• Strong judgment and ability to handle urgent matters effectively
• Skilled at managing multiple priorities independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
