Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated microbiology contractor to assist the team at our laboratories in Boston, MA. They will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary project team to develop a novel screening platform for drug discovery. The ideal candidate will have experience in sterile techniques for microbial cultivation and characterization, and be adept at learning and executing on new protocols with in-house training.  

Responsibilities

• Help source, characterize, and maintain in-house microbial collections 
• Lead sample preparation for DNA sequencing (e.g., follow SOPs for DNA isolation and NGS kits)
• Prepare and sterilize media and buffers for microbiology
• Setup sterile microbial cultures and microfluidics-based fermentations 
• Assist with the HT screening and characterization of microbial screening hits (e.g., isolate DNA for sequencing, glycerol stocking hits, setting up re-growth plates, generating extracts)
• Prepare large-scale fermentations to aid in the scaling of hits
• Assist with instrument maintenance, set-up/cleaning
• Manage general inventory and ordering of microbiology supplies

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related fields
• Knowledge of general microbiology and molecular biology laboratory equipment and experiments (e.g., culturing bacteria, DNA isolation, PCR)
• Experience with media and buffer preparation
• Self-motivated and passionate about your work 
• Organized and detail-oriented
