Job Title: Computational Science Manager – Mitra Lab

Job Number: 84451

Location: Cold Spring Harbor, US

Job Description

Position Description
The Brain Architecture Project (led by Dr. Partha Mitra) is looking to hire an ambitious computationally skilled scientist passionate about mapping and understanding the principles of brain-wide neural networks across vertebrate species including Mouse, Marmoset and Human. The Brain Architecture project is a vertically integrated effort spanning experiment, computation and theory. To date, the project has collected a large corpus (>6 petabytes) of light-microscopic whole-brain data sets for mapping mesoscale projections as well as single neuronal morphology across the species. The data are being computationally analyzed to extract the principles of brain circuit architecture and being shared online with the scientific community through a web portal.

The Computational Science Manager will have a leadership role in the team working on the computational/analytical pipeline for the project data, spanning a computational chain that proceeds from gigapixel light microscopic data through feature extraction and atlas mapping, to summarization and interpretation in neurobiologically meaningful terms, to visualization/annotation of the results on the web portal, and to scientific publications. Key responsibilities will include the necessary project management, project reporting and leading the publication efforts, in addition to computational responsibilities including working hands-on with the project databases and analytical pipelines to enable the project outputs including publications.

The ideal candidate for the Computational Science Manager position will be proficient with at least one of and familiar with all of: Matlab, Python, MySQL/SQL, Javascript, Bash/Shell and Terminal, and C/C++. The ideal candidate will also have a track record of publication success and prior experience in contributing to the writing and composition of grant and fellowship funding applications. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply via the online CSHL application system.
