Job Title: Chemical Biology Postdoc in the Ferguson Lab at UCSD
Job Number: 91038
Location: La Jolla, US
Job Description
Background: U.C. San Diego provides an outstanding environment for training, where colleagues include world-class basic scientists, clinical pharmacists and physicians. UCSD provides access to state-of-the art facilities and equipment, and there are abundant opportunities for collaboration with other research groups at UCSD, and at surrounding institutions including Salk, Scripps and Sanford Burnham Prebys.
About: The Ferguson research group is a chemical biology lab in the U. C. San Diego Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our research goal is to harness induced proximity create new tools, technologies, and therapeutic approaches for better understanding and treatment of neurological disorders, with a focus on degenerative disease. To accomplish this, we use a broad range of techniques including medicinal chemistry, assay development, mass-spectrometry based proteomics, functional genomics and patient-derived cell models. You can learn more about our research by visiting: https://fergusonlab.ucsd.edu
Position: The Ferguson lab seeks a POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW to participate in development of molecular glues and related novel modalities. While we consider various backgrounds, a strong interest in understanding how small molecule tools work, and the desire to tackle a major problem of great significance are absolutely essential. The position will allow the candidate to develop valuable new skills and experience in molecular glue discovery, assay-development, target validation, targeted protein degradation, and chemical biology in a highly collaborative research environment. Position includes a competitive salary and generous benefits through the UC system.
Our laboratory is based on the UC San Diego main campus and is affiliated with both Physical Sciences and Health Sciences divisions, the ThermoFischer Goedell Family Technology Sandbox, the UC San Diego Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. We have access to state-of-the-art facilities for chemistry, biophysics, cell biology, mass-spectrometry, imaging and structural biology. Join our highly interactive team of scientists, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate researchers to work on understanding the synthetic signaling circuits created by chemically induced proximity, and leverage these insights to test new avenues for therapeutic development.
Responsibilities:
· Assay development and mechanism of action studies.
· Patient-derived cell culture.
· Collaborate effectively with medicinal chemists in the Ferguson lab, and with translational research groups.
· Supervise and train other researchers in experimental techniques.
· Prepare and write scientific manuscripts, patent and fellowship applications in collaboration with the principal investigator.
· Attend and present findings at internal, local and national meetings.
Requirements:
· Ph.D in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, or related field.
· Candidates should possess training in basic molecular biology techniques.
· Candidates with experience working with patient-derived organoid models are especially encouraged to apply.
Application: Please email a cover letter describing relevant experience and research interests, a CV including publication list, and contact information for three references to fmferguson (at) ucsd.edu.
