Job Description

Seeking a passionate and technically accomplished Associate Scientist II for a contract role in oligonucleotide chemistry. The successful candidate will join our guide RNA chemistry team, contributing to gene editing drug discovery programs. This hands-on role requires deep knowledge and experience in long oligonucleotide purification and downstream processing. The ideal candidate will work under supervision or independently to enhance our internal guide RNA synthesis capabilities. Core competencies include functioning in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced environment with a proactive and collaborative approach. This position is based in Watertown, MA.


  • Purify and analyze long oligonucleotides using chromatographic techniques.
  • Perform purification, desalting, lyophilization, and analysis of modified guide RNAs.
  • Develop HPLC and UPLC methods for purification and analysis.
  • Support solid-phase synthesis of modified guide RNA.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab equipment.
  • Prepare buffers for RNA purification and analysis.
  • Track progress, generate updates, and present data at team meetings.
  • Prepare SOPs and maintain electronic lab notebooks.
  • Conduct experiments safely and efficiently.
  • Perform repetitive tasks, staying motivated in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills

  • BS/BA in Chemistry with 1-3 years of lab experience; or MS in Chemistry with 1-2 years of lab experience.
  • Experience in oligonucleotide purification using reverse-phase and ion-exchange chromatography.
  • Skilled in LCMS, UPLC, and other analytical techniques.
  • Experience with automated oligonucleotide synthesizers is a plus.
  • Proficient in maintaining HPLCs, UPLCs, LCMS, and synthesizers.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to producing high-quality oligonucleotides.
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
  • Effective in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in data analysis and ELN record-keeping.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
