Position Summary:
As an Associate Researcher, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to express, purify, and analyze proteins of interest, contributing to structural studies that aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying disease. The role will involve conducting molecular biology and biochemistry experiments, supporting protein structure determination, and assisting in the preparation of experimental results for publication and presentation. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates looking to expand their technical skills and gain experience in structural biology research.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct protein expression in bacterial, insect, and mammalian systems.
• Purify proteins using techniques such as affinity chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography, and other biochemical methods.
• Assist in preparing samples for structural studies using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography.
• Perform routine molecular biology tasks, including cloning, PCR, and mutagenesis.
• Assist with structural and functional assays, including biophysical characterization (e.g., fluorescence-based assays, electrophoresis).
• Contribute to laboratory maintenance, inventory, and organization of reagents and samples.
• Participate in weekly laboratory meetings and contribute to research discussions.
• Collaborate with lab members on data analysis, and documentation of experimental protocols.
What We Offer:
• Comprehensive training in structural biology techniques such as cryo-EM and protein crystallization.
• An opportunity to contribute to high-impact research projects in the fields of neurodegenerative diseases and oncology.
• A supportive environment for skill development and career growth, with potential to contribute to publications.
• Mentorship from senior lab members and access to state-of-the-art research facilities.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, or a related field.
• Experience in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and protein expression.
• Familiarity with cell culture, baculovirus systems, or tissue culture work.
• Experience with protein purification techniques (e.g., affinity chromatography, gel filtration).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• A willingness to learn new techniques and solve complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or other structural biology techniques.
• Experience in data analysis and presentation of experimental results.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to perform experiments while seated or standing for extended periods.
• Dexterity to manipulate small laboratory tools and reagents.
• May involve light physical effort such as moving laboratory equipment or handling reagents.
Please submit a single PDF file including a cover letter describing your research experience and career goals, along with your resume and contact information for two references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Compensation:
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $35K/yr-$66K/yr. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need.
