Job Description

We are seeking a biologist who has an entrepreneurial spirit and curious mind to lead research efforts on new drug discovery and development programs.  The role will focus on validation and mechanistic characterization of targets and pathways of interest to FogPharma, in vitro cellular assay development to support hit-to-lead activities, and in vivo proof of concept studies.   This position reports to the Head of Biology, and the incumbent would be expected to independently drive the biology efforts on specific programs from inception through IND enabling studies.  The current therapeutic focus area is oncology, although the platform could be utilized in other disease areas in the future.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who seeks the potential to make a substantial impact for patients with intractable diseases.


  • Leadership of Biology Research for drug discovery programs with oversight of the following:
    • Target validation including use of knockdown approaches and/or tool compounds to estimate critical parameters for pharmacological inhibition
    • Evaluation of drug activity and mechanism in cell lines
    • Development of assays and establishment of new technologies to address key mechanistic questions and drive the drug discovery process
    • New target evaluation including assessment of emerging biology within therapeutic areas of interest
    • In vivo animal studies to establish efficacy and characterize pharmacology
    • Biology portions of IND enabling studies
  • Strategic guidance of programs
  • Oral presentation of results, analyses, and new proposals to teams and senior leadership
  • Authorship of scientific publications and IND filings
  • Establishment of program goals and accountability for achieving objectives
  • Management, mentorship, and development of other laboratory personnel
  • Effective collaborator, contributor, and/or leader on cross-functional teams
  • Selection and oversight of CRO’s where needed

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in biology or related fields
  • 8+ years of industry experience in preclinical research that includes cancer biology and immuno-oncology
  • Ability to initiate original research plans and advance new scientific understanding
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing and developing high performing research teams and cross-functional teams
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Clear written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment
