Job Description

The Accountant 2, Payroll processes semi-monthly payroll through Workday and the integrations to process garnishments, 401(k) contributions, FLEX and Commuter plans, and Health Savings Plan. They create time tracking reports and other miscellaneous payroll reports.  They prepare journal entries and reconciliation schedules related to payroll, benefits.  Part time- 20hrs/ wk. 

Responsibilities

  • Processes semi-monthly payroll using Workday
  • Prepares all payroll, paid time off and other benefits journal entries and reconciles payroll and benefit accounts for month end close process
  • Processes the reporting of stock transactions in payroll
  • Participates in testing for the implementation of new Workday system releases. 
  • Enters new state payroll tax registrations and garnishments in collaboration with ADP
  • Calculates termination payouts and any off-cycle checks impacting payroll, benefits and/or compensation.
  • Prepares and processes responsibilities following stated SOX Controls.
  • Prepares all payroll and benefits related schedules needed for ongoing audits.
  • Prepares reconciliations of Federal, State and Local payroll tax returns, including quarterly, annual and form W-2s.
  • Comply with payroll internal controls.
  • Assist in technical guidance research on payroll.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports to fulfill information needs across the organization.
  • Interact regularly with all members of the Finance department.
  • Interact regularly with members of other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with minimum of 5 years experience in accounting, general ledger and payroll (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered). 
  • Working knowledge and research capabilities of applicable local, state and federal laws pertinent to benefit administration, and familiarity with FMLA, CFRA, CA SDI, ADA, OSHA, COBRA, and ERISA.
  • Microsoft Excel (intermediate level, including use of charts, graphs, and pivot tables) and Word.  
  • Ability to work independently, protect and safeguard confidential information, and meet deadlines applying great attention to detail.    
  • Solid experience in problem solving skills, analytical thinking, and process transformation necessary to grow with a company are of major importance. 
  • Experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry in a financial capacity highly preferred. 
  • Software Knowledge:  Great Plains, Workday
  • Must have flexibility in work hours to ensure overlap with CA team
